The Benefits of Learning to Love Yourself

Do you ever wonder if there is more to life than this? I do!

To truly move forwards in life we need to learn to love ourselves. We need to let go of old pains and hurts and fall in love with who we really are. I invite you to open your heart and dive in; give yourself permission as you discover self-love and self-acceptance. It’s time to let go of the social conditionings that no longer serve you, that are keeping you stuck in your old pains and hurts, keeping you stuck in your sadness, your anger and your disappointments.

Many of us lead hectic lives, often so busy running from one place to another, checking off our to-do list without having the time to notice what’s actually going on around us, not giving ourselves time to think, to feel or to be. I believe that we are all here for a reason; that we have our own unique gifts to share with the world to assist with making it a better place for each and every one of us.

The Human Experience

We are all magical beings having a human experience. Sometimes it can be particularly challenging, other times it is full of wonder and joy – but what if you had a choice, what if you could access the wonder and joy more readily than the challenging times?

There are times in life when we can feel stuck and it can feel as if we are wading through treacle, and other times when everything seems to be so out of control that we just want it to stop so that we can get off the merry-go-round and catch our breath. Then, of course, there are also those magical moments when everything seems to be going smoothly and life is full of love, laughter and joy. Where are you on your journey in this moment? I, for one, have been wading through treacle for a while but the shifts are taking place and I am beginning to move forwards once again in positive and wonderful ways – life feels exciting!

A Work in Progress

I believe that we are all a work in progress, life is a journey and we are here to learn and to reconnect with who we truly are. Sometimes we just need to stop in order to take stock and allow time to analyse where we have been, what’s been happening and what we can learn from the experiences we have had. We need to go within and allow the future to unfold moment by moment in its own divine timing. When we have been in discomfort we need to sit with it, we need to observe how we are feeling and as we do the answers will come. Both healing and meditation are wonderful tools to assist with accessing the deeper meaning of all that is going on around us. They can assist us with developing greater love, compassion and forgiveness for both ourselves and for others.

In order for life to flow with more grace and ease we need to take time to go within and uncover our learnt behaviours and limiting beliefs that are holding us back.

Understanding Our Own Stories

To evolve, we need to understand our own stories, to find out what is keeping us stuck.

Have you ever asked yourself or someone else, ‘Why does this keep happening to me?’ Until we understand our own stories we often keep repeating patterns but as we take the time to go within to look, to see and to feel what’s really happening then we can begin to take action; we can begin to be accountable for our actions and we can choose to change our behaviours, and we can also choose to change what we do and don’t do to help ourselves. We can release and heal our learnt behaviours and limiting beliefs, letting them go. Through our meditation practice we can begin to listen to the voice within and make the positive changes required.

The Power of Observation

The first step is to take time to observe. Allow yourself to feel what is really happening, not what you think is happening but what really is. This enables you to find the deeper meaning behind what’s going on and to access the learning available to you. We generally have an image of how we want people to see us rather than what we are actually projecting out into the world for all to see. As we begin to understand more fully how others observe us, we can begin to make sense of how and why they react in the ways that they do. We can then begin to learn to do things differently to change outcomes in wonderful ways.

Uncovering Old Wounds

I recently uncovered a deep wound that I hadn’t been previously aware of. It was deeply buried and facilitating various learnt behaviours and limiting beliefs that have been holding me back. When I first uncovered it, I just wanted to run from the room and hide, I wanted to cry, but as I gently felt into it, I was able to allow it to slowly and gently dissolve away. By the end of my healing session I felt so amazing, I knew this was one of the big ones that had been running the show, quietly undetected and stealthily undermining what I was wanting to achieve. I now feel lighter and brighter; I feel ready to move forwards to create new ways of being that are nourishing and supportive for my general wellbeing.

Being Accountable

This leads me on to say that we all need to be accountable for the lives that we are living, for the actions that we are and aren’t taking. No one evolves by making the same choices over and over again. Once you have uncovered what is keeping you stuck it can be released and healed. As you release and heal it you create the space for a new way of being: you begin to re-discover who you truly are and as you learn to listen to the whispers of your soul you become aware of your truth. As you listen to these soul whispers, you begin to make new and healthier choices: you begin to do things differently.

The choice to undertake the journey is yours alone but once you make that choice, choosing to observe, to learn and grown can often require help and support from others to equip you with the tools that you need along the way. As you begin to step into all that you fully are and as you take ownership of your behaviours, you can be more grounded and centred, have stronger boundaries, learn to say ‘no’ and begin to make better choices. Speaking from my own experience, as you take these steps towards learning to love yourself, the Universe rewards you with new opportunities and life begins to unfold in such magical ways.
