Having Healthy Boundaries

Maintaining your boundaries

The topic of boundaries is something I’m very passionate about, having spent many years on my own ongoing and consistently evolving personal healing journey. As a former people pleaser from a very young age, I used to struggle with maintaining my boundaries and as a result, often found myself in situations and relationships over the years where I was not treated well and my self-esteem dwindled.

It’s safe to say I believe that developing and maintaining healthy boundaries is something of a work in progress for all of us, because life constantly brings us opportunities to check in on where we are with them and over time, we will begin to notice the subtle and not-so-subtle signs of when they are being tested. We will feel it in our bodies, in our emotional reactions, in our energy levels and quite often our instincts will alert us to our boundaries being pushed – that feeling of, “hang on a minute, something doesn’t feel quite right here”.

Learning to say ‘No’

One of the most important things to say about developing healthy boundaries is the need to learn to say No. Whilst it can seem scary, giving yourself permission to say no can be incredibly empowering and occasionally even exhilarating and freeing.

Saying yes, especially when you’d rather say no, is a way of giving your power/your energy away; it is a negative energy exchange and we want to cultivate positive exchanges for growth and expansion for ourselves and be an example to others, so that they too can benefit from cultivating boundaries of their own.

Embarking upon your self-healing path, gently supported by energy healing, is a wonderful and gentle way to begin to lean into the inner wisdom that is at the root of maintaining your boundaries and learning to conserve that precious power that lies within you.

It’s okay to not always be available to others

It’s okay to turn down an invitation because you are tired and wish to relax at home. It’s okay not to respond to messages and social media comments immediately, despite what this busy, fast-paced society we live in would have you think – I promise you that it will all still be there when you have replenished your well, and you will thank yourself for allowing your boundaries to hold you.
