Time to Slow Down

2025 has been a challenging year for many of us as we have been guided to let go of the old outdated versions of ourselves. Things have been unravelling with every twist and turn and most of us are exhausted, feeling like we are treading water or getting nowhere fast. It has been a bumpy ride and I’d like to invite you to give yourself permission to slow down, take it easy and relax for a moment. I feel that October and November will continue to be confronting but my hope is that December will be calmer as we prepare to step into 2026, which will be the beginning of a new cycle. I’m one of many who struggles to sit still, I’m always on the go needing to do one thing or another. Yes, of course, I can sit still (my meditation practice definitely helps!) but just recently I’ve been made to take things at a snail’s pace, which would normally drive me to distraction.

I’m now loving being back at work and seeing my clients after my trip to the UK but as many of you know I am also recovering from a hip replacement. Unsurprisingly, I initially found my concentration and focus to be poor after the general anaesthetic so I have been listening to some wonderful audio books, podcasts and watching uplifting YouTube interviews. I have needed to pace myself regarding my recovery and I have had no choice but to slow down. On some levels I’ve found it challenging but it has also been a beautiful gift.

My recovery has been teaching me not just to slow down, but to be more mindful as to where I choose to place my energy. I have had to let go of doing all my doings, many of which I race through because I just need to get them done. Generally speaking, some days I don’t make the time to do the things that make my heart sing because I am so busy doing what needs to be done.

Instead of my ‘doingness’ I’m now focusing on my ‘beingness’ and for the first time in a very long time I am learning to prioritise between what makes my heart sing and what has to be done. Naturally, I am also having to take time to rest between each activity to allow my body the energy to heal. It has been an absolute joy to sit in the garden feeling the warmth of the sun on my skin and having a cuddle with my dog, Boo, just allowing myself to be in the moment.

As I mentioned above, one of my great pleasures of late has been listening to audio books. At present I’m working through Neale Donald Walsch’s Conversations With God, which I have owned both in paperback and audio form for years and only now have I carved out the time to listen to and enjoy it. I have also been enjoying general fiction as well as spiritual books, the latter giving me much food for thought and which has been especially delicious for me.

In consciously taking time to slow down, I have noticed a positive shift in my energy flow. I’m able to tune into how my body is feeling – for example, I overdid it one day but as I felt into how my body and how my hip was actually feeling I became aware of the inflammation I had caused and that I truly needed to be gentle with myself.

When you give yourself permission to take a moment and slow down, what brings you joy? Is it just relaxing with a cuppa and watching butterflies flutter past? There’s so much beauty in nature going on around us in each and every moment. Let go of the chaos swirling around you and remember that good things are coming. There may still be a little more letting go to do but as you slow down, take a breath and trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be.

It may not be where you want to be but trust that the present situation is a stepping stone. The universe most probably has a bigger and better plan for you than you could possibly have ever imagined. Relax and enjoy the peace, read a book, walk in nature and let the magic unfold. Trust in divine timing: things will begin to fall into place; choices will become clearer and easier.

Take your time and give yourself permission to slow down and let dramas pass you by – especially if they are not your dramas. Choose where to focus your energy so that you can enjoy the simple pleasures in life. Ask yourself what makes your heart sing and create the space and time for just that.

I hope that what I have shared with you this month encourages you to slow down, to enjoy the simple pleasures in life, to saviour the joy and to be happy. Remember that healing and meditation are excellent ways to assist you in letting go of old learnt behaviours and limiting beliefs, assisting in you stepping ever more fully into all that you truly are. Enabling you to soften, open and expand your heart space, learning to know yourself on a soul level.
